Sunday morning stroll down the pier for breakfast. Extra of the place we had our coffee & tea, overlooking the estuary.

Southend Pier is 1.3 miles long on the way down and about double that on the way back. It’s a favourite place for us & we’ve wandered here for many years, starting long before it regained its popularity. For those who prefer to see the views from inside, there’s a train running the length of the pier. And at the end, one of the old tea shacks is where episodes of Jamie’s Friday Night Dinners are filmed. During the day it’s a great little cafe and when the film crew arrives it morphs into something completely different. But many things feel the same. The boards along the pier still creak, the fishermen are always there, the wind howls with such ferocity that they metal tubing seats play a tune as you walk down. It’s great!
