I made a new friend behind Sainsbury's. Because of its eyes, I have given a green tint to the image.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Contours (featuring Dennis Edwards) - Baby Hit And Run (recorded by 31 January 1967, Motown Studios A & B, Detroit MI)
This is yet another Motown song with a chequered history, as did the group the Contours (pronounced Con-TOURS). The Funk Brothers track for the song dates from August 1965, the first version featuring lead singer Billy Gordon. It was considered for a single and also scheduled to be on an album The Contours Sing It's So Hard Being A Loser (named from another single), but both single and album were cancelled. Over the next couple of years lead singers came and went and Jerry Green, Joe Stubbs and Dennis Edwards all recorded vocals over the band track, and none saw the light of day. Dennis Edwards' version might, but he was drafted in to the Temptations to replace David Ruffin at the last minute.
An acetate of his version found its way into the British Mod clubs as a Northern Soul dancer, and the British Tamla Motown label responded by giving it a release on a single in 1974.  It has still never been released in the US, but the Billy Gordon and Jerry Green versions were released on compilations in recent years.
