Summer in autumn

A welcome day off, with a trip to Cambridge Botanic Gardens to meet up with my niece, Kaddy. We'd arranged to meet up in the spring, but lockdown put an end to those plans, so this was the first time we'd seen each other for a year. Very strange that we couldn't hug each other though.

Although it was the Autumn Equinox, the weather was decidedly summery, reaching a sweltering 27C in Cambridge. There were still plenty of flowers to admire, including the very delicate blooms of White Gaura but there were also signs of autumn, with the richly coloured leaves of maple and cherry producing some stunning reflections in the lake and the pink and purple blooms of Meadow Saffron and Autumn Crocus studding the areas of 'wild' grassland.
