Life through the lens...

Quoit impressive!

Every time we come to Cornwall, as well as a superb welcome pack,Carol always gives us a little card with one of her paintings on the front.
This year it was Lanyon Quoit. So today we set off to find it.
On the road from Madron to Morvah, N. W. Of Penzance.
No signs, and the high hedges are too high for you to see over.
However we spotted it in the distance, as we drove up the hill.
Found the lay-by. Only big enough for two cars, and there was one already there.
( at bit of luck)
The stile is a few paces away, and again hidden in the hedge, and also the plaque. Again hidden by undergrowth.

It is believed to be dolman ( Burial chamber)
Originally dated from the early Neolithic period 3500 - 2500 BC.
Predating the pyramids of Egypt, and metal tools.

Originally it had 4 upright support stones, until a thunderstorm in 1815 dislodged it.
The fall broke one of the supporting stones, and so when it was re-erected 9 years later
( by local public subscription ) there were only 3 upright stones.
In 1952 the then owner Edward Bolitho from Trengwainton , donated the plot of land with the monument, to the National Trust.

Wonderful view from there out to sea. So glad we found it. Quite hard to believe it is so old.
I have put a photo of Carol’s painting in the corner of the blip.

A drive along the North coast, followed by pasties, and then a walk along King George V walk, Copperhouse Pool, and out to The Towans Hayle.
( see extra)
Pleased to see construction well underway at North Quay for the regeneration of the harbour.
The first phase features homes shops and open spaces just yards from the beach.
Glad it includes some affordable homes for local people.

Have tagged this for Wide Wednesday, title, Man made. Thanks to Steveng for hosting.

Lastly I have been informed that this is my 9th Blip Birthday, so an extra big thank you for all your kind comments, star and hearts over the years.
Blip is full of kind and generous people, who have provided support to each other especially in this difficult time.
Long may it continue. Thank you all at H.Q.
