For me this is a wondrous sight. Until the last couple of years monarch butterflies have been very rare visitors to my garden. Last year, encouraged by the appearance of one or two, I planted two swan plants in big pots, but there were no takers. Recently I moved the plants close to the Viburnum bushes that have a lot of nectar and it worked! Here is a monarch laying eggs. I watched her for some time as she fluttered from leaf to leaf depositing tiny white eggs. Three can be seen in this photo. In the 63 years I’ve had my own garden this is the first time a monarch has chosen my garden.

Another view in extra shot.
