My mother has taken to sharing anti-Tory memes on WhatsApp. This is an important milestone in her use of social media, and should be universally commended.

I went with my friend Alison on a tramp in Cambridge and environs. The city itself is ramjammed with amazing buildings and green spaces but the surrounding countryside isn’t going to wow any hikers. However the villages of Girton and Histon proved to be decent strolling fare that earned us a filling roast halfway along. In Girton this phone box has been converted into a floral display. Sad to see the bike lock securing the door, and the notice addressed to ‘whoever is taking our plants.’ At risk of sounding like a curmudgeonly codger, this country is going to the dogs.
