Sparrow heaven

A wet day for a walk, and very poor light. During WWII there was an American military base on the farmland here. To this day, metal detectorists turn up unexploded munitions on a regular basis. People are just blasé about it, though you haver to ask why GIs didn't pick grenades up when they dropped them.

So here I am on what is still known as the American Road, which runs in a dead straight line for about a mile from Cromarty Mains, across the fields. It has been carrying regular tractor loads of seed from the harvest, into storage. As you can see, a heck of a lot has been dropped, evenly spread for the full length of the road. And flocks of sparrows are having a wonderful time.
