Mothering instinct

When I went out this morning to unblock an airlock on my rather idiosyncratic rainwater capture system, I found this Herald moth 2cm below water level in one of the butts. I put my fingers under it, brought it into the air then into warmer air indoors. It dried remarkably quickly and seemed OK walking on my hand so I took it outside to some sheltered leaves in the greenhouse. I left the door open so it could escape if it wanted to but when I went to check on it, it was shivering. When I next looked I couldn't see it. I hope it found some ivy blossom or blackberries to feed on but more likely I failed to save its brief life.
