Hobbs's Run

Just After Nine

I ventured into the Sydney CBD today, wearing my mask. The place was deserted. The above pic shows part of Central Station's grand concourse ... JUST AFTER NINE in the morning.

Many of the people I encountered at Central were construction workers. There is a major extension and upgrade going on at Central to provide underground platforms and a whole new concourse for the new Metro system. There is a new tunnel being built under the harbour and above ground station entrances are appearing in all sorts of places. In conjunction with the existing (albeit less efficient) underground railway system, lots of traffic should be taken off motorways. We'll see. In any event I plan to show you pictures soon.

Meanwhile New South Wales (and Sydney of course) hasn't seen a new community transmitted COVID case in nearly a fortnight and only an occasional one or two per day over many weeks before that. I'd have thought that people would be getting out more by now. Aside from some constraints for organised, large, close proximity gatherings of people,  quarantine for arrivals from outside the state and general social distancing, there are now few restrictions. Maybe we're all suffering from a kind of siege mentality.

For extras I am including pictures to show such places as the Pitt Street Mall, Town Hall Station, the George Street shopping precinct etc. All equally quiet.
