Sheltering in Place, 1918

We went downtown for lunch and a brief stroll, and were rewarded with this timely installation, courtesy of our Museum of Art and History. The text on the mask is from a local diary written during the flu epidemic of 1918. The full explanation is in the Extra photo. The stack of boxes is identified as "Cover's Patent Automatic Respirators." This is a replica of an actual label from a real product that may have been cutting-edge at the time.  The installation is a clever project and a good way to liven up one of the many sad empty storefronts in the shopping area.  Discerning viewers may find a selfie, as well as the ghost of Mr S in these images.
