Southwards

Quite a big deal for us today.

Back in August, with the formal end of shielding in sight, we booked a week away. We had stayed at our prospective destination before on a BnB basis, and knew they had some self catering accommodation. We made enquiries, they were not doing any BnB, but the self catering accommodation was available. They were very reassuring about the cleaning regime, we love the area, so we booked. 

Come the day, Storm Alex arrived with the forecast dreadful for the south, so we delayed our departure by two days, I guess a part of that was also whether we were doing the right thing. 

But today we took to the road. We were nervous - would the car be OK, could we drive this long a distance without going into a service station. The driving was fine, torrential rain for the first half and then it calmed down as we moved south. We only stopped to eat our home made lunch in the car. 

It is going to be a very different break for us. Normally we would eat out a lot, and look forward to going into lots of places. None of that on this trip, we have brought all our own food and drink, staying in and sticking to the great outdoors when we do go out. We love chalk downland, and its an environment where physical distancing is fine. 

A friendly arrival, and the accommodation is just right. This is our bedroom view. The wind turbine on the hill is that used to power the opera house at Glyndebourne. 

Tonight is pizza night.
