Autumn Fungi No. 3

Autumn Fungi No. 3.

I believe this to be the underside of Yellowing Woodwax. Hygrophorus discxanthus. It is at an early stage and later in its growth the cap will turn yellowish.

It can be confused when young with Hygrophorus eburneus, Ivory Woodwax.

But I am going for the former because that has been recorded here by expert friends.

It grows in Beech litter and has a rather slimy, sticky cap.

See the extra for a more conventional view.

Today’s walk back to more normal levels at 7,500 steps.
