Crazy About Birds

Door Spider

This spider is in the corner of a door that goes from the kitchen out to the south end of the house. A door we typically use to go to where the laundry line is, or to just dump a bucket of water outside, or to access the closest outdoor faucet/hose. But for the past week or more we've had to make the door off limits because this spider has her web there and we don't want to disturb her.

I've had a devil of a time trying to get a photo of her because the background is so busy that the camera refuses to even see the spider. But suddenly earlier today for one moment it focussed on it!

She's a red-femured spotted orbweaver. And she had caught and wrapped up something this morning. You'll see in her Latin name the word domiciliorum - because they frequently are found on buildings. Yes! Indeed they are.
