Returning

The Bay of Islands is a really picturesque area of New Zealand. It is made up of, as the name suggests, hundreds of little bays and islands. The place we like best, and where we have now arrived, is Russell.

To get to Russell we use a car ferry, which goes back and forth across the water between Opua and Okiato. It takes about five minutes to cross on this tiny drive on, drive off ferry. It is possible to get there by road - the scenic route, Russell Road, which contours round the coast. This is however, much, much longer and not something to be tackled lightly. So most people use the ferry.

Here we are then, at Opua, watching as the ferry comes in for us and looking out over the water onto the Bay of Islands.

The reason I have chosen to blip the ferry is sentimental really. The first time we came to New Zealand, ten years ago, we spent a few days in Russell with our daughter and her now husband during their 18 months travelling and working in Australia and New Zealand. It was a magical time and we all fell in love with the area and with Russell itself. So we returned on our next trip and here we are again. We will rekindle the magic for a few days, before beginning the journey home.

Earlier in the day we saw Kiwis !!

So sorry! Somehow the link, which I carefully put in and previewed, disappeared. Hope it works now! And hope it isn't too much of a disappointment to those perplexed and anticipating wonderful things. Actually it was wonderful!
