Wanderings & Witterings

Today we returned our friend S to the embrace of the earth.

The 'service' S herself had planned included music by Enya and Anne Lorne Gillies, words by Herbert Read, JRR Tolkien and Ruth Burgess, and a closing song called 'Be Free', by Jane Harris. It draws on the words of John Muir, who in turn quotes Shakespeare - "One touch of nature makes the whole world kin."

The birds sang, the wind blew briskly through the trees, and the sunlight dappled the slopes of Dumgoyne as we said our goodbyes to the words, "For one touch of nature makes the whole world kin, soothes the heart that's grieving and washes the spirit clean, brings the body perfect rest and lets the spirit sing. Be free, yes be free, be free."

Tomorrow will be a brighter day.
