Industrial archaeology

A different walk today, up the South Sutor. On the path towards the hill, along the seashore, I saw an otter for the first time ever despite years of trying.  A beautiful, lithe thing of willowy flexibility, diving off its rock into the sea and swimming parallel with the shoreline. That alone made my day, though none of my photo attempts was any use.

Around Cromarty there remain signs of former industry which is long gone. If you're into industrial archaeology, here's an archaeological thingy for your pleasure. It's beside the path up the hill, about 100 feet above sea level.

If you have any ideas on what the thingy was used for, do let me know.
