Stuff and Nonsense

Carrion Crow #78

This morning we had a lovely walk along the asparagus trail at Formby. I really wanted to photograph the red squirrels that are normally scampering around there, but they were few and far between. There were a couple of posters up stating that Squirrel Pox has been spreading in that area and to report it if you see any suffering squirrels. It looks like they no longer feed the squirrels as this would encourage them all to congregate in the same area and transmission is obviously greater when in close proximity (now where have I heard that before?.....)
We walked into the dunes and spotted some meadow pipits, a noisy little wren, a great spotted woodpecker, some magpies and another little brown job that remains unidentified. Then it started raining - how dare it! That wasn’t on the forecast....but it soon stopped and was fine.

On the way back to the car we did see a couple of squirrels in the treetops chasing each other and we waited around for ages to see if they would come closer, but the shot in extras is the best I could do today.

My blip today is a close up shot of a carrion crow. There were a number of them in the forest along with the magpies and a Jay and they came very close - I guess they were used to people and in the past I think many people were feeding the squirrels and birds so they sort of expect to be fed. They weren’t so lucky today as I didn’t have anything to offer.
