Cuween

It’s a morning of museums. The Stromness museum for starters, with historical niknaks, tales of voyage around the world, and an ageing collection of stuffed animals (some of them now extinct).

Then we visit the Pier Arts Centre, free admission, and a surprisingly eclectic selection of well known twentieth century artists. There are plenty of Barbara Hepworth from the permanent collection and an excellent exhibition of photographs by Martin Parr.

We head to Kirkwall for a final lunch. Megan has lectures this afternoon. Claire wants a snooze. I return to Finstown and a sunny walk to some stacked slab pillars above Cuween chambered cairn.

Then a final supper and farewells. Our ferry departs at 6:30 tomorrow morning.
