Brothers Water

Our last morning on the lakes so I set the alarm to get up early to photograph the sunrise, but it actually was not much of a sunrise so I should have rather slept in.

We had breakfast, packed up and checked out. We drove home via the other side of Ullswater down towards Glenridding, Patterdale and past Brothers Water where I took a few photos. The reflections on Brothers Water were so beautiful in the calm weather and so this is my blip today. We planned to walk around it on this trip but I have done so before so it was not a priority.

We wanted to see Windermere which as expected is a very large town and not, in my opinion, a charming part of the lakes. But we had a decent coffee at a cafe there and then quickly walked up Orrest Head which is the first fell Wainwright ever climbed and is the reason he fell in love with the Lake District and went on to climb all the fells and write a series of books about every walk

We had a pleasant enough journey home, stopping once to buy some food from Waitrose for lunch. The traffic was not bad until we got to the M25 around Heathrow.

We thoroughly enjoyed our fleeting visit to the lakes, and we were blessed with good weather. Xena loved the walks and new smells too. We are also enjoying exploring more of the U.K. now that foreign travel is not possible - well it is,  but I don’t fancy flying just yet you or being in quarantine.

In extras - 1) the boats lined up at St Patricks boat landing near Glenridding, 2) the view from Kirkstone Pass looking back at Brothers Water 3) the view from Orrest Head over Windermere Lake.
