Of Twites and Twitchers

The walk we had planned for today didn't happen as the road we wanted to use was flooded and cars weren't being let through till eleven a.m. Instead we returned to the area we had walked on our first day here. It was very busy, but still pleasant. As well as dog walkers and family groups, there were lots of birders, as there are quite a lot of interesting and unusual birds around the area, including one "mega" further down the coast at Stiffkey; a bird that has only been recored half a dozen times in this country. Where we were, the local celebrity was a Pallas Warbler, which Mr PB got a good view of - I just saw a bit of movement in the scrub. I was pleased to see some Twite, because they are attractive little birds and are becoming pretty rare, although not in the same league as the Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, or even the Red-flanked Bluetail. Home tomorrow.
