wild & precious life

Bench in Autumn

Two names engraved upon this bench
Tell a story of a lifetime spent
In the same village
In each other's hearts
From early in life till death did they part.
When one sweetheart died
The other did follow
To be side by side
In joy and in sorrow.

I'm always moved by this bench so I wrote a little ditty.
A number of years ago, when hubby and I went through a really bad time, we ended up sitting and talking here. It was only afterwards that I realised the bench was dedicated to a couple who lived and died together. I like to think they had something to do with bringing us back together.
