Day 9: lights

A busy day, teaching python in the afternoon.

Long conversation with Rowan about the current state of the world. It is strange to live through absolutely historic times. As I have said before, we are lucky and in many ways life is very mundane for us. Personally, we are not facing an existential crisis (yet?). However, it is clear that the world is rapidly changing. Just read that one of our favourite cafes - Spoon - is closing for good. It is not surprising, but so sad. It is hard to see how any cafe/pub/restaurant/cinema/theatre can survive this calamity without lifeline support. So undoubtedly many more places that we are familiar will disappear. The question is what will happen once this particular storm has settled. Will all these places be taken over by companies with deep enough pockets and we will end up with even more grey unity sludge? Will rents collapse and we will end up with new space where new ideas and concepts can grow? I guess it doesn't take too much of an imagination of how we could end up in a totally apocalyptical situation. The thing that totally enrages me is that our Westminster Government is determined to add Brexit on top of this global catastrophe. Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if this government didn't make it to Christmas.

Anyway, as someone wrote - it's much more fun reading about world historic events in a book than living through them.
