A view from St Swithin

Invercauld Bridge

I’d planned to do a couple of easy Munros at Cairnwell today with some pals but when we met it was misty, wet and cold. After regrouping in the cafe at the ski centre we drove back down through Braemar and had a low level walk in the Ballochbuie forest at Invercauld which adjoins Balmoral. The walk starts and finishes on the impressive Invercauld Bridge - built by General Wade in 1753 after the Jacobite Uprising as a means of transporting troops to the highlands to keep control of the bothersome Scots.
