Quod oculus meus videt

Leaf Fall

An interesting day.  We were asked by the Director of Public Health to visit positive coronavirus cases in our area, where they hadn't engaged with the telephone track and trace teams.  In the UK there is a lot of concern over track and trace and the large percentage (more than 50%) of those who do not respond to contact from the teams trying to identify onward transmission.

We were naturally apprehensive about the potential transmission as well, so we were kitted out with masks and visors and a clear approach to stand well back from the door.  Liberal use of hand sanitiser had also been in our plans. We believe we were the first in our area to carry out this work and so the results of being guinea pigs will be useful for other colleagues going forward.  Thankfully in all cases where we spoke to the people they were recovering well and hadn't suffered to badly at the hands of the virus.

I've long believed that local track and trace is the way forward, though with so many positive cases the head scientists have been quoted as saying that it is less effective as we are unable to keep up with the spread.  Time will tell but in our area we continue to see an upward trend in positive cases and we are wondering when we will be moved into the next tier of alert level.

After a long day I just had the chance for a late walk in the sunshine just before the sun set for the day.
