Bad News

Our neighbour Bevan is inspecting a frame from one of his beehives.  He knew the queen bee had died.  He ordered a new queen from our friend Ian who breeds them.  Ian delivered the queen this morning and took a look at the hive.  His inspection showed the presence of American Foulbrood.  This is a bacterial disease that will eventually kill the hive. The hive will have to be destroyed by burning.  Tonight when all the bees return home to the hive it will be covered and removed tomorrow.  Our other neighbour Andrew is having his hives checked on Monday to make sure the disease hasn't been transferred by his bees robbing Bevans hive and bringing the bacteria home.
We have visitors staying for a few days so my comments may be a bit hit and miss.  This was the only photo taken today so my photos might be a bit hit and miss too.
