The dropped stitch

Drill Hall, Golspie

Heading back north, but with time for a walk round in Golspie. So many interesting buildings, all worthy of a blip.

I chose the Drill Hall with autumn colours featuring in the extra, because they were a highlight of the trip too.

The Drill Hall was built at the end of the nineteenth century. The architect was Laurie Bisset, architect to the Duke of Sutherland. In 1914 the building was used as the HQ for 'A' company of the 5th Seaforth Highlanders. Later, and until the 1990s, it was a Territorial Army hall.

There seem to have been a variety of plans for it in more recent years, which include its demolition, conversion to a youth hostel, a community hall or an art gallery.

Much of the structure looks in poor condition, but it's good to see it has been given a new roof, which will surely help it survive.
