Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A duck by any other name.

A raft of eider ducks at the mouth of the River Ythan. Their scientific name is Somateria mollissima whilst  in the Scots language they are known as annets  or ennets.

The extra is a female garden spider busily incorporating her eggs into a cocoon of silk. Taken through our less than sparkling clean bedroom window. In Scots, spiders are called spiders, or sometimes spyddirs.
