Sir Peter Scott
We visited the WWT at Barnes again today, taking the grandchildren this time. The statue of Sir Peter outside the entrance looks very different to when I blipped this on 18th March.....the swans at his feet are obscured by ( overgrown) vegetation. We talked to one of the volunteers who told us that some of the staff are still furloughed and many volunteers have not yet returned....some because they are ‘shielding’. He also said that quite a lot of maintenance work had been done previously by groups of people on corporate ‘team building’ days and that the companies had also given donations to the WWT..not happening any longer. The cafe is closed but there is a takeaway kiosk and the gift shop was doing a good trade.
We got there as it opened so had a nice hour before the hoards arrived. We were lucky to see the otters playing too.
