Sentinel

Neither of us had ever seen a ground squirrel in a tree before. He does have a much better view. Our big adventure today was a quick trip north of town to Wilder Ranch State Park and a 2.6 mile walk along the ocean cliffs. Let's see if I can remember: we saw a scattering of quail, a hawk, a trio of red-headed buzzardy things circling overhead, lots of pelicans, seagulls and cormorants, seals, and a variety of little hoppy birds. There was a pickup pulling a porta-potty back from the fields, a couple acres of rosemary bushes, lots of bicyclists, and a handful of other walkers. A field of forgotten pumpkins, partially plowed under and feeding scores of hefty crows. All of this with the crashing ocean on the left, and farmland on the right.
