One Good Turn Deserves Another

I spotted Reynard trotting away from us by the lake this morning. Ollie dog clocked him too and I could sense excitement in her every sinew but she was a good girl, didn't pull on the lead and just stared. We watched as the fox squatted, sniffed and circled many times in the brambles. Eventually it settled down to rest in the sunshine and that is when it saw us and scarpered.

Peter, who used to help us on the nursery, used to say, "One good turn deserves another" as a sort of joke when our dogs used to circle a few times before settling down to sleep. This is a behaviour hardwired from their wild dog and wolf ancestors.

I saw on Twitter the other day that Anne Louise Avery has written a book retelling the story of Reynard The Fox. I must get it.
