Such silly people on a Saturday

There could only be one topic for today’s blip, Storm Aiden which blasted its way through this afternoon.

True to form we were out in it, feeling smug in our wet weather gear walking along the prom between Hythe and Sandgate being battered by the winds and deafened by the sound of rain drumming on our hoods. It was exhilarating with the sea pounding away on one side; grey, angry and storm tossed.

The photo doesn’t give a decent impression of the conditions. Some were caught out unprepared others, like us were in it deliberately. You would not believe that less than an hour earlier we were driving down to Hythe in sunshine and were able to sit outside for a coffee and scone.

There were fishermen on the beach would you believe it? And a couple throwing a ball to a small dog that was going into the water to retrieve it.

We weren’t so smug at the end though. We sat in a shelter for lunch which we thought would protect us. Some of the wall has been removed meaning we had to sit at opposite ends to be out of the wind. Our feet were sodden despite the shoes being gortex and by the end Susan’s arm was wet. She discovered later that the ventilation zips under the arms of her jacket were slightly unzipped.

She’ll not make that mistake again. There she was, thinking her expensive Paramo jacket was faulty!

As we were travelling home, at the end of the day the clouds cleared and the sun came out!

Definitely a Silly Saturday in memory of Admirer. Hosted by davidc. Thank you. SilSOct2020
