We're Watching You

A mobile police booth surveys the scene. We're watching you, recording you and listening to you. Easy way to stop them watching is just unplug the van. Yes, the van is plugged into mains electricity on a nearby lamp post.

This police booth is a kind of mobile police station and they're often found positioned near busy road junctions.

In the past Chinese citizens needed special permission to enter Shenzhen because it was a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Therefore, it was considered a safer place because of the extra police presence and border controls.

Several years ago a 'guannei' pass was required to get into Shenzhen. In ancient times guannei was permission to travel in China this meant within the Great Wall. This guennei pass was needed to get one through the main entrance gate along the Great Wall at Shanhaiguan, which is near Beijing. Thus, anything outside the Great Wall was 'guanwai' and anything intside was 'guannei'. Shenzhen city centre was guannei and where iPhones are made was guanwai!
