A healthy crop of Stump Puffballs. Lycoperdon pyriforme.

A common member of the puffball family often found in large numbers on rotting tree stumps and logs.

If you drop tiny stones on them a cloud of hundreds of minute spores puffs out of the hole at the top and is quickly carried away on the breeze.

Tried to photograph a spore cloud puffing out but my skills or my camera or both were not up to the task.
