The Scottish Engineer

As ever for we Flums, a slight error of navigation  provided an interesting point of interest. Today it was The Scottish Engineer. Mr Flum being one, though perhaps not the most famous (not at all, actually) we stopped to read the large information board attached to the wall and of course, to Blip it..

This establishment was, at the time of an early Google Streetview, named The Telford, standing as it does on Telford Road. The road itself was named in January1929 after Thomas Telford, the famous Civil Engineer who was born in 1757 at Glendinning in Eskdale, the son of a shepherd.

Quite why this connection morphed into a potted history of Engineers Through The Ages is a mystery but all credit to the landlord for drawing attention to the unsung heroes of the construction world.
