tempus fugit

Peeking in tongues

(Sorry - awful pun)

These tiny coal black exclamation marks have popped up all over the mossy lawn and have quite fascinated me over the past few days (which is not to say that other things haven't caught my attention as well.)

They belong to a genus of fungi known called Geoglossum  or earth tongues. (I wonder what they want to to say?)

Also on the lawn is a flush of snowy waxcaps  (Hygrocybe virginaea) and sprinkling of white spindles aka fairy fingers (Clavaria fragilis).

Perhaps my habit of flinging my foraging remnants out of the back door is paying dividends.
