A day without hunting

Sort of...    The hunter decided he was done with the walk and stalk hunting that is mostly done out here in Colorado.   He decided he was going to put up the one blind (a small  canvas popup tent with zip up window flaps) and we were going to sit still in the sagebrush patch with hopes that the elk and deer will come by.   So we walked the two camp chairs and the blind a half mile into the property and set it up.   It is pretty snug and we have a good 360 view of area.     We went back late afternoon when we stood at the truck and could see deer hanging out close to the blind.    Amen!    Saturday he can hunt deer.    But we did not see any elk.   We did hear three different coyotes barking and howling.   

After we set up the blind we decided to go to our favorite restaurant in Saratoga, Wyoming.   While I was looking up to make sure it was open for dine in, I found another restaurant that had a much more appealing menu so we went there.   It was worth trip.

The collage is from our drive today to Saratoga.     The rocky mountain peak is very near the US Continental Divide which goes from Canada to Mexico.   The Continental Divide is the geologic point where the rivers and streams either flow east or west. There is a Continental Divide trail which we have hiked a little one other year we were here.    The mountains are also so high that the timber line goes away and there is nothing but bare rock.  The log cabin was an old trappers cabin that is very near the divide line.    We stopped at an overlook to see if the lake below there was frozen..it was not even though it might have  film of ice on it.   The area around this lake was still full of snow as the elevation is so high.  We saw an eagle floating on the air currents and it was really weird that he was below us.  I tried to get a photo but he was just too far away.  

As we were heading back down the mountain we came across the sheep herd being moved.  Here in the west they use the roads to move cattle and sheep.   There was only one shepherd on the horse and four dogs, two Border Collies and two Great Pyrenees.   There must have been three or four hundred sheep!     The last photo is the mountains where we are staying from the east side.  A very different perspective.   

The mountains are so huge and photos just do not show the scope of the range.   

Tomorrow is going to be our last warm day as rain showers and then snow move in Saturday.   Hoping the cold will help the elk move off the big mountain!  

Thanks for any stars and comments on the photos from the last couple of days.  I can't seem to get time to sit at the computer when we get back in except for posting the photo of the day.

Starting Saturday, we will be getting up at 5am to get to the blind by 6am.  I don't really have to go but I just don't like the hunter to be by himself.   I will have my tablet fully charged so I can read a book while I am sitting.  Since I am not allowed to talk much, cough or sneeze.  Says the hunter.
