Bike trouble

Mild again, not so sunny and rather dull at the last knockings of the daylight.

Just as we were having breakfast, Doreen’s carer rang with a bit of an emergency which necessitated a call to 111 and a visit by a District Nurse around lunch time. That meant a reorganising the day to do the morning things in the afternoon and vice versa.

While Susan was out in the garden raking up leaves I was pickling the onions I’d peeled yesterday the going on to make tonight’s chilli chicken.

No time to work on the bike which yesterday had a funny turn in that instead of putting air into the tyre, the pump was letting it out. I’ve got to take the wheel off to see where the problem lies.

We had a minor crisis of our own which was resolved far quicker than we expected. Susan couldn’t find a gift from her grandad and was beside herself for sentimental reasons. I lifted a box down from the top shelf in the garage, without any hope that it would be in there. We couldn’t see any reason why it would be there as it’s all my mum and dad’s old stuff. And there it was! What a relief all round.

The day was considerably more joyous after that despite the general gloominess of the weather. It was t much better in California. It was raining hard when we were taking to Chris and Landon.

He, like most Californians is elated by the result, as it most of the world by the looks of it. I hope this is the start of a period of shared collaboration on climate change, saving the ecology and tackling the pandemic.

We enjoyed watching the rather different Festival of Remembrance last night. Equally as moving. A link with my parents as dad was a standard bearer for his branch of the Royal British Legion in Wrockwardine in Shropshire (https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2705511919363559014) having served with the Royal Artillery in the war. They used to be avid observers of the muster and parade keenly watching to see if anyone was out of step.

We stood at our door at 11.00am and had the poster in the window. We were the only ones who did, at least at our end of the close.
