Day 231 Remembrance Sunday

Today was an unusual Remembrance Sunday as all events were considerably scaled back including the one at the the Cenotaph, Whitehall, London, where Her Majesty watched, alone from a balcony.  The usual onlookers and veterans of course were not there, sadly  although I do think that these pared down events (like VE Day) have a simple dignity to them.

This year I have photographed my father's service medals, or rather the small copies.  Nothing remarkable in them but a record of over 30 years of service in the RAF, as for him this was a career rather than an interlude of wartime service.
There is a wonderful arch of poppies at the war memorial in the town near to us and I shall try and visit and take photographs by 11 November.
