On Fish Island

Fish Island on Hackney Wick is a microcosm demonstrating the progress of gentrification. In the foreground there are the Victorian factories which were taken over as artists studios. Middle ground finds a 1960’s industrial shed and in the background are Covid19 era flats, just finished and not yet occupied. Gradually it’s being turned into blandsville.

Nevertheless I thought the curve in the street, where each road is named after a fish, presented an attractive vista so all I needed to do was wait till someone appeared. The lady parked her bike and then sprinted across to get out of the way. No, No! I cried, please stay in the middle. She obliged and went back to the white line. But I preferred this one so there you have it.
