Resilience

Monday has been different. I had 2 online group sessions with Parliament’s human resources people.

The first was for constituency office staff, to find out what issues we have been facing in the last 8 months. It was good to see people face to face (almost) who have just been names on emails up to now. It was good to know we are all facing the same challenges, mostly caused by workload increasing 200-300% with no extra resources - apart from a printer or laptop here and there.

The other was some coaching about how to build our individual resilience, and that was helpful too. There was nothing new and there were no magic solutions, but having an expert talk and listen was positive.

Ironically, while the second session was going on the Boss got into his emails and started firing about 20 over to me - they were popping up on my screen and my resilience was ebbing as fast as it was building.

It was after 6pm before I could take some of the advice and get out, seeking fresh air, a bit of exercise and relaxation. The weather was clear down at the shore after another day of fog up here at the house - how things can change with 90m (295 feet) elevation and moving 1.7 miles (2.7 km) inland.

Very tranquil. Just the sound of the waves and the clanking of halyards on masts.
