Sequoia

Sequoia is a genus of redwood conifers that includes the tallest trees as well as the heaviest in the world. There are many in the Big Tree country of Perthshire. This is one of  two magnificent Wellingtonias at Cluny House Gardens. This one has a girth of over 11m. Although over 150 years old, this native of North America is still a youngster as the trees can live for a thousand years.   Redwoods live near the coast, while sequoias live in subalpine regions of California, similar to the hills of Perthshire.
