Fetch Boy

"He thought it was going to be totally out of character but there is a first time for everything."

I have for some time been an admirer of painters and sculptors Gillie and Marc Schattner, a married couple from Sydney who create their works as a team. I have not yet been able to attend one of their exhibitions, and have followed their progress only through the news and social media. I was so pleased, then, to find today "Fetch Boy" (fibreglass and bronze paint) in the gardens of the Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

The Schattners have a growing and devoted following, and municipal councils and other bodies, both in Australia and overseas, are embracing (and thereby further fostering) the popularity of the work, especially the dogmen sculptures. Melbourne's Federation Square is at present exhibiting a series of four bronze paparazzi dogmen, and a seven-metre-high dogman photographer (which actually takes photos of arriving guests) has been placed at the entrance of the Ying Ren Hotel in Beijing.
