Cabbage Tree Flowers

My signature cabbage tree is looking rather fancy at present, with its halo of white flowers. Most are still in bud.

As I was photographing the tree I noticed a bird flitting about in the top. I thought it was a sparrow because, along with a pair of starlings they are nesting in the tree. However, it turned out to be a waxeye. There were flying insects up there and I think it was trying to catch them. You can see it with spread wings and tail in this shot. I’ve extracted two shots of it and blown them up. See extra. I love the one where it appears to be lying on its back in mid air, with its feet clasped over its stomach.
