Another Zoom Webinar

I realised that I'd yet to take a record shot of something I've spent a lot of time on this year and that's Zoom. This afternoon I had an Arts Society webinar on portrait paintings, so the screen whilst waiting for the webinar to start was perfect. This morning I did some cupboard sorting out and washed a very dirty car. After the webinar I had a fab 2 hr Facetime chat with my friend T. She had to postpone her wedding at the end of May for a year, and has now decided to get married as soon as lockdown ends, with a big party in May - an excellent idea.

Day 247 / Day 13 of Lockdown 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 598 to 52,745 (revised basis), with 20,051 new cases, 15,830 patients in hospital and 1,391 on ventilation (yet more 'technical difficulties' with publishing the data today - it's getting beyond a joke). The total Covid cases to date in France passes 2m. To w/e 6/11, the ONS reports 1,937 deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate in E&W, that's 40% higher than the previous week, which was 41% up on the previous week. For the UK as a whole death certificates mentioning Covid-19 total 63,874. Excess deaths in the UK since the start of the pandemic are now 70,839. 11 areas of Scotland are to be moved into the strictest Tier 4 restrictions from 6pm Fri. The £10k fines are being put on hold temporarily due to concerns re disparity between those who pay the fine and those who take it to court, for now the instruction is to issue a court summons rather than a fixed penalty notice. There are court cases concerning Saiger in the US and UK re the provision of PPE, also concerning the role played by a Spanish businessman - all complicated and it will be interesting how it plays out. The PM tests negative. Dolly Parton donated $1m in April to vaccine research, part of which was used to fund an early trial of the Moderna vaccine. This lead to a fan on twitter referring to her hit Jolene by tweeting 'vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vacciiiine'.
