Falkirk Tunnel

The tunnel carries the Union Canal. It is 696 yards long, and construction started in 1818 because a local landowner would not allow the canal to cross his land.

Mrs P and I walked along the canal from Linlithgow to Falkirk, and returned by train. We've done the walk a few times, and usually extend it to visit the Falkirk Wheel. However we were feeling a bit feeble this time, and gave up as soon as we reached Falkirk station.
