Day end

Early start. We fully expected to be down to one hen today, but Aoife has defied the odds and survived the night. Yesterday was not a good day for her, and she spent a good deal of it being cuddled by Mr B. (As an aside, I can now better understand why he doesn’t want pets - he’s too much of a softy to deal with sick creatures.)

Today was v cold - first light frost last night so not a good time to be poorly if you live outdoors. Tonight she seemed a little better, ate and drank something, and we heated their coop a bit to give them a bit of help.

Some work cutting up fabric in preparation for hanging as tapestry panels. Ironing 16 metres of fabric sounded like hard work so we have temporarily hung it to see if gravity does the work for us. Later, lots of sitting outside, well wrapped up against the cold even though it was sunny, keeping an eye on our poorly hen.

Later I turned out to be an accidental maths genius, which rather put the lie to Mr B’s mockery of my stories of great women mathematicians.

The big news is that the minus temperatures meant I was finally allowed to put the stoves on. The bad news is only one of them works.
