Elmdon Hall Ice House

Finally tracked down the hidden ice house in Elmdon park in Solihull. The hall is long since demolished as it fell into disrepair after WWII. Most of the ice house is underground of course, just a little bit of stone and concrete now marks the spot. I had to crouch down and could just get my arms down to take the pic. I have found the following information on the internet:-

Ice house. Circa late C18. Brick. Egg-shaped, 15 ft across and 22 ft tall. Short passage, 4 ft wide, has right angle bend and leads to upper part of the chamber. Sunken underground, the earth mound over it has eroded exposing the domed top of the ice house. This ice house is situated in the park of Malvern Hall [qv], which was built in circa 1690 and remodelled and extended in 1784 by Soane.
