Life after Burradoo, NSW

Scary winds

And so the wild season begins. This weekend we have had a heatwave accompanied by ferocious winds this morning. This massive gumtree just behind our house looked like it was going to be ripped apart. The photo doesn't do it justice. Suddenly we heard a loud crash and then another. We were startled. We expected to find damage.Thankfully we didn't. A smallish branch had been ripped out of the tree and, at considerable speed, had bounced twice on our roof on its way to our front garden.

The first extra shows the proximity of the tree to our house. It is not on our own land, but on the common land. The second extra shows that the branch was not very big but that it had an old split in it which would have made it vulnerable.

The winds have now died down - until next time.
