Hole in the wall

After knocking the pendulum off the clock and it smashing the plastic surface mounted electrical socket outlet on the skirting beneath it I decided to replace it.
Discussions concluded it would be best mounted flush in the wall and be a metal finish. As usual things turn out to be more complicated than first thoughts.
