When our "hamlet" was built, a preservation order was put on all the trees regardless of their value.  The planners also allowed the builders to build very close to some of the important specimens on the proviso the trees had a protective shield to prevent subsidence.

This huge Wellingtonia has recently been condemned because the house on the left is now suffering subsidence and their insurers served notice on the neighbours that they would sue unless the tree was removed.  The council must have agreed and removed the preservation order.

It has been very distressing to see and record this tree's demise today.  It's not its fault, the blame lies with the planners and builders who allowed the houses to be built too close to the trees.  I fear a similar fate will apply to the other Wellingtonia that stands close by, once they agree who owns it.

I've added several extras although I've no idea why it puts them out of sequence.
